Witch Trials

Below is a video with a picture depecting a scene during the Salem Witch trials, and a song I made in high school to go with an english project, and some background relating to the Crucible and witch trials in general.

The lyrics are written through the eyes of one Abigail Williams towards a John Proctor--two important characters in The Crucible. If I recall, it took about four hours to put everything together.

I didn't make any drum beats this time around, I just used freeware loops of sound and recorded my vocals, and then put it all together into one track.

Abigail Williams

Lyrics>

Burn the witches, burn the witches!

Sew up our oppression with agony's stitches!

Burn, burn!

I'm supported by the Holy, I got God runnin' through my veins.

Got a town around my finger, got lust fueling my evil desires.

I will have my way--I will get it!

(I lust for you Mr. Proctor--I lust for you to suffer agony, to die in pain!)

Burn the witches, burn the witches, sew up our oppresion with agony's stitches!

Burn, burn..burn, burn!

(Verses Repeat)

A letter written by Abigail Williams, defaming a Mr. Jacobs and detailing about his witch craft.

The Salem Witch Trials,

among other things tend to be an enduring fascination for me. The Salem Witch trials, for the uninitiated, is a period in early American Colonial history where stupid got the best of a lot of people.

It began with a group of children, one being Abigail Williams, claiming people around them were using witch craft.

There has been much speculation about whether or not these children were seeing such things, some people going as far as saying that ergot--a natural substance that grows on grain--made the villagers hallucinate such things.

Me? I'm pretty sure it was just a group of kids vying for attention in an oppressed society. Then the adults got on board and realized it was an easy way to take property. You see, a witch condemned to death had their possesions taken away from them and awarded to those who called them out on their "evil" deeds.

Just goes to show ya...never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups!

"never underestimate the power of stupid people"...yes, that pretty much does sum up the Salem witch trials. I like the way you did this. The sound is pretty eerie...it would go well in a horror flick. :D

That was a sad part of American history and many innocent people were put to death. I did not realize that their possessions would then be confiscated. Hmmmm...enough motivation for some, I am sure.

Oh yes, it was a great scam. It was a small scale version of the Holocaust, except there was no clear hatred for a group outside of witches and warlocks...
